At Level 4, students independently and collaboratively experiment with and apply a range of skills, techniques and processes using a range of media, materials, equipment and technologies to plan, develop, refine, make and present arts works. They investigate a range of sources to generate ideas and manipulate arts elements, principles and/or conventions in a range of arts disciplines and forms as they explore the potential of ideas. In their arts works, they communicate ideas and understandings about themselves and others, incorporating influences from their own and other cultures and times.
Demonstrating Knowledge through ARTs
Write a script, a scene or chapter from the novel and get a small group of friends to help perform for the class. Use props
and costumes to portray your imagination of the book.
Create the Monsters of Ignorance:
The monsters who live in the Mountains of Ignorance are all creatures who demonstrate some form of ignorant and unpleasant behaviour and their names help describe them. Invent 5 more monsters of Ignorance, name them and describe their bad habits. Draw a picture of each one. Identify the use of art elements in the production of the monsters.
Script an argument between King Azaz the Unabridged and The Mathemagician debating whether words or numbers are more important. Choose a partner and present your script to the class.
Design a front cover for The Phantom Tollbooth.
Students can design their own original front cover of The Phantom Tollbooth using materials such as paint, glitter, glue, feathers, and button etc this can be conducted in the ART room.

With the Art Teacher (Chroma the great and the Colourful Symphony)
Discuss colours and interpret how the make us feel. Look at a variety of paintings and discuss how colour impacts what the painting/artist is trying to convey.
With the Music Teacher!
Listen to a variety of symphony performances. How does this music evoke feeling? If they were playing colours, what colours do you hear?
Dynee and Sounds!
Dynee has collected all of the sounds. How do deaf people function effectively and happily in a world with no sound? Have small groups construct an inquiry about the various methods used by the deaf in a hearing world.
